Home Sweet Home

Although I was only home for a quick visit one of my best friends came up with a list of 17 things to do to make sure I made the most of my time home. Even though we didn't quite manage to cross them all off, we made a nice dent in the list as well as adding a few extras such as a backyard sauna session, 3 separate birthday celebrations, PHO and my very first Zumba class. In addition to the list I managed to incorporate working, catching up on all my appointments and spending time with my family. Time went by way too quickly and I can't wait for my next visit back to the West Coast of Canada.

Hair today, gone tomorrow

Most of you who know me know I never change my hair. I hate hairdressers and always take off the minimum amount of hair that has to go. With it being a new year I thought I should try out a new look. I chopped off a good amount of hair and am now sporting a Lob (Long Bob), still getting used to how much shampoo and conditioner to use and how to style it but it's growing on me.

Country Vacation

This past weekend was the first weekend I've had off in the past 3 months, so Phil and I decided to take full advantage of that. We had seen an article in the newspaper about the 10 best winter walks and decided to check out the one in East Sussex. After looking at B&Bs and hotels in the area we decided to use Airbnb to get a better deal and a quaint cottage to ourselves. Phil picked me up on Friday night after my shift and after a quick hour and a half we made it to the picturesque town of Rye. After unloading the car and making dinner we went for a jaunt through town and ended up going for drinks at the Mermaid Inn. The Mermaid Inn Pub had a real cozy feel to it with the archaic decor and toasty fire.

The next day we set out for our hike and the weather could not have been better. We started our hike on the right path, but soon got lost and had to change our course of action. The hike described gentle rolling hills, which we soon found to be more steep inclines then gentle hills. After stopping for a picnic along the way to enjoy the views of the white cliffs we made it to the lighthouse. The lighthouse had been moved 50 ft inland due to the crumbling cliff edge. After a bit of bushwhacking the trail back was more relaxing. The map led us through fields and farms back to the Tiger Inn where we parked our car. After a much deserved Ice Cream we made our way back to our cottage.

We made it

After checking out on Sunday we went for a jaunt through the town to fully experience Rye. We soon found out that since it was Sunday most of the shops were closed. This didn't bother us too much as we were more interested in the sights. Rye is known for being one of the best preserved medieval towns. This is clear when walking through the cobbled streets. There were plenty of historic sites such as the Castle of Ypres, Norman St Marys Church, and the Prison Door from the 15th century I attempted to get into.
