Sommerset Skating

On Friday afternoon Phil told me to layer up and be ready to go at four o'clock for a surprise in London.  After bundling up we made our way to the train station for a lovely evening. The surprise was ice skating at Sommerset House! After checking my bag we laced up our skates and pushed our way to the front to be one of the first ones on the ice. The rink was busy but we still managed to snake our way around people and didn't fall once! Can't say the same for the rest of the skaters... quite a few were holding on the railing for dear life. After an hour of skating we walked around the Thames and came across a Christmassy market filled with Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Bailey's Hot Chocolate and even Santa and his elves.

Birthday Bumps

After weeks of not having a life and working every weekend I finally got a sunday off! This wasn't just any sunday, this sunday was Vic's (Phil's nephew) 5th birthday party. The day started off by being woken up by the terrifying Victor-saurus.

The rest of the day included opening presents, playing with this little cutie, and having a massive roast dinner and a homemade Angler fish cake.

A Novel Idea

Since being offered a job at Gap, I have been bussing a lot more than I usually would. In order to fill those 50 minute bus journeys I have gotten back into my obsession for reading. I'm currently on my third book, although I'm sure by the end of the weekend I'll be finished it too. I love everything about books from spending hours at a bookstore finding the perfect book, to getting so absorbed into the reading you feel like you're in the book. I thought I'd share with you my top ten novels (in no particular order).
1. Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill
2. Sarah's Key by Tatiana De Rosnay
3. The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom
4. A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a boy solider by Ishmael Beah
5. Eating Animals by Johnathan Safran Foer
6. Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis
7. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
8. Still Alice by Lisa Genova
9. Dry by Augusten Burroughs
10. Secret Daughter by Shilpi Somaya Gowda

What're your go to books?

Falling for you

With the weather cooling down I've started thinking about buying a new winter coat. These are a few I've been craving. What do you think?

Where the Wild Things Are

Since I wasn’t able to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving back home with the family, my grandma’s homemade pumpkin pie and scrumptious turkey, I had the second best thing: carrot cake and spending time with Phil’s family. Phil’s niece and nephew came for a visit and after drawing a treasure map we took Phil’s cute nephew Vic for an adventure in the woods. While we were off gallivanting, scaling muddy hills and scouting acorns and chestnuts the carrot cake was cooking nicely in the oven. Exhausted we headed back just in time for a decadent slice of heaven. After having a family dinner, the boys and I put our best poker faces on and played some cards. The night ended with me beating the boys at their own game.

Throwback Thursday

I thought with it being Throwback Thursday it was only fitting to do a post from this past summer.

Following our Greek Theme we had a spread of Greek salad, chicken, pitas, humous,  and tzatziki

My weekend in Photos

This past weekend was jam packed with fun activities. Friday night started off with a real early dinner and a train ride to the seaside town of Whistable. We arrived just in time to see the amazing sunset over the water. Our evening was spent at the Royal Native Oyster Stores watching the best blue grass old rag-time band called The Wiyos. If you have the chance to see them live you definitely should. They're a 3-man band and each band member plays a plethora of instruments from the stand up bass all the way to the washboard.

On Saturday we took a road trip to Surrey for one of Phil’s Uni friends engagement party. Everyone was very welcoming and it was really nice getting to meet Phil’s friends. They hadn’t all been together in over 5 years so they had plenty to catch up on and celebrate. The drinks were flowing, and as is customary in the UK, the night inevitably ended up in a kebab shop, with meat in a pita slathered in chilli sauce… surprisingly good, from what I remember!

How fitting
